Michalis Koutroumanidis is a neurologist and neurophysiologist. He has led the department of clinical neurophysiology and epilepsy since 2002, and is responsible for the adult epilepsy and the first seizure services, and the electroencephalography (EEG) section.
My lab studies individuals with epilepsy, focussing on one broad question: why do epileptic seizures start? In collaboration with mathematicians and engineers, we construct models of the human brain using a range of imaging and neurophysiological techniques, such as functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), electroencephalography (EEG), simultaneous EEG-fMRI and simultaneous transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS)-EEG.
I am the director of the Pain Science Technology and Research (STAR) Lab, whose mission is to foster collaboration between clinicians and researchers to develop, test and validate novel technologies and methods to diagnose and treat chronic pain.
Ley Sander is a professor of neurology and head of the department of clinical & experimental epilepsy at UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology. He is a consultant neurologist at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, with a specialist interest in epilepsy. In this role, he has approximately 1,200 people with epilepsy under his neurological care.
About Navi Neuro - born from a personal need
The idea for Navi Neuro was born out of personal necessity and professional passion. As a caregiver for a family member who suffers from TBI, stroke and acquired epilepsy, I encountered firsthand the fragmented nature of post-acute neurological care. The transition from hospital to home was fraught with challenges, including finding appropriate healthcare providers, managing medications, and coordinating rehabilitation services. Discussions with other caregivers and patients revealed a common struggle: the lack of an integrated solution to navigate these complexities effectively.
